Whaaaaaat?!? A rainbow during Lent? But Lent is so somber! I hear you. But, it’s true. In worship this week we’ll read Genesis 9:16-17. And it says,

When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

covenant is like a marriage. It’s a commitment between two families to work toward a common goal. Here, God makes a covenant with Noah and surprisingly, He doesn’t ask anything from Noah in return! God acknowledges that people are going to continue to mess things up but He’s committed to providing a stable place for us to learn and grow while we mature through our mistakes.

Rainbows aren’t just for Noah. They are for us, too. We can be sure that we will make mistakes. And we can also be sure that God will love us and help us grow through them.
